I’ve published four books for middle grade/young adult readers, and have many more works in progress. Images of my published books are listed in the sidebar to the right.
The Kevin Kirk Chronicles is a four-book series about a boy who works alongside his parents in the family business — a mortuary — in a small town near the Arkansas delta region.
My Mom’s a Mortician received the 2004 Middle Grade Fiction award from the Association for Mormon Letters. Read the review here. In this book, as seventh-grader Kevin adjusts to living in a funeral home, he makes friends here and in the hereafter, and discovers there is more to life than what we see with our eyes – and that there is much to be learned by following one’s heart.
Funeral Home Evenings received the association’s 2005 Young Adult Fiction award.
Read the review here. An ambitious science geek, Kevin tries too hard to impress his teacher, the unimpressionable Dr. Wallace. The more he fails, the more prideful he becomes — and the results are disastrous.
In Early Morning Cemetery, when a long-lost family member returns, a rash of thefts occur — and Kevin, who has just started his freshman year of high school, is falsely accused of the crimes. He must find a way to clear his name and warn the rest of the family about the thief — but will anyone believe him?
The last installment in the series, The Final Farewell, finds Kevin making plans for his senior year of high school. But so much has changed — his best friend has moved away, his girlfriend dumps him for the school football hero, and his life after graduation looms ahead like a chasm without a bridge. When the time comes for him to make the most important decision of his life — a choice that no one else can, or should, make for him — he must take a leap of faith and learn to trust his own feelings.
These novels were published by Covenant Communications of American Fork, Utah, a publisher and distributor of faith-based books and other materials.
